Public Access Trauma Kits
Since 2015, the directors of Ark Medical Solutions have been founder members of our charitable organisation, Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership. After ten years the partnership has successfully installed and supported the installation of 45+ Public Access Defibrillators across our community. In 2024, Ark Medical are now leading the way for the installation of Public Access Trauma Kits, with the first device in Dorset being installed on Swanage Seafront.

The Concept
In response to the devastating Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017 which resulted in over 800 people being injured, the UK government has endorsed the use of PAcT kits. These Public Access Trauma First Aid Kits have been specifically developed to be readily available in public areas, buildings and events, and are designed to be user-friendly, enabling anyone on the scene of a crisis to use the kit's contents to treat casualties and prevent threats to life. The kits contain essential items that can be used to provide immediate assistance in the event of a major incident where multiple members of the public suffer critical injuries, including children. The aim of these kits is to ensure that individuals have access to the necessary tools to provide life-saving care in emergency haemorrhage situations.

The Benefits
In today's fast-paced world, emergencies can happen at any moment and in any place. When it comes to traumatic injuries, immediate medical intervention can be the difference between life and death. Public Access Trauma Kits are an essential resource that can provide critical medical assistance to individuals in need, even before professional help arrives. In this post, we will explore the benefits of these kits, how they can be used, and how 'Ark Medical Solutions' can assist you in implementing one in your community.
1. Prompt Medical Intervention:
Public access trauma kits enable the general public, including bystanders and first responders, to administer immediate medical aid to those injured in accidents, natural disasters, or other emergencies. By having these kits readily available in public spaces, buildings and events, precious time can be saved, increasing the chances of survival and minimising long-term complications.
2. Control Bleeding: Traumatic injuries often involve severe bleeding, which can quickly lead to life-threatening situations. Public access trauma kits typically include items such as tourniquets, hemostatic dressings, and bandages, allowing individuals to control bleeding until professional medical help arrives. By taking immediate action, these kits can significantly improve the prognosis for the injured person.
3. Versatile and User-Friendly:Public access trauma kits are designed to be user-friendly, making them accessible to individuals with varying levels of medical knowledge. These kits often come with clear instructions and diagrams to guide users on how to apply life-saving interventions effectively. With basic training, anyone can become empowered to provide crucial medical aid during emergencies.
4. Community Resilience and Empowerment:Implementing public access trauma kits in your community not only enhances emergency response capabilities but also fosters a sense of community resilience and empowerment. Knowing that these resources are available can provide reassurance to community members, encouraging them to take immediate action during critical situations. By working together, communities can become better equipped to handle emergencies and protect each other.

The Terrorism (Protection of premises) draft Bill (Martyns Law).
Martyn's Law will require those in charge of certain premises and events in the UK to assess the risk of a terrorist attack and plan how to respond, thus enhancing protective security and organisational readiness. This is the first time such a mandate has been put in place.
The proposed Bill mandates that venues take appropriate measures based on their capacity to minimize the impact of a terrorist attack and prevent harm. The level of responsibility vary depending on the size of the venue. Venues with a capacity of 800 or more will be classified as "enhanced," while those with a capacity of 100 to 799 will be classified as "standard."
Ark Medical Solutions offers a range of key services to assist organisations, businesses, and communities in setting up public access trauma kit programs and Martyns law compliance. These services include:
1. Consultation and Needs Assessment:
Ark Medical Solutions works closely with clients to understand their specific needs and requirements. They conduct a thorough needs assessment, considering factors such as the size of the community, potential risks, and strategic placement of trauma kits. This ensures that the program is tailored to the unique needs of the organisation or community, or your event.
2. Customised Kit Selection: Based on the needs assessment, Ark Medical Solutions helps clients select the most appropriate trauma kits for their program. They offer a wide range of high-quality medical supplies, including tourniquets, hemostatic dressings, airway management tools, and more. The kits can be customized to include the necessary equipment based on the specific requirements of the organisation or community. The RapidStop® Tourniquet relies on key technologies to achieve rapid, intuitive and easy one-hand self-application. Application is even faster when a responder uses both hands to apply the tourniquet to a victim. This innovative and effective design makes it Ark Medical's Tourniquet of choice.
3. Training and Education: Ark Medical Solutions provides comprehensive training programs to educate individuals on the proper use of trauma kits. They offer hands-on training sessions, ensuring that participants are confident and competent in providing immediate medical assistance during emergencies. The training covers topics such as bleeding control techniques, airway management, and other essential skills. We deliver the full suite of First Aid at Work courses, and can also add Catastrophic Bleeding as a separate certification.
4. Ongoing Support and Maintenance: Ark Medical Solutions offers ongoing support and maintenance services for the trauma kits. This includes regular restocking of supplies to ensure that the kits are always fully equipped and ready for re-use after deployment. Ark Medical also provide maintenance services to ensure that the kits are in optimal condition.
By offering these comprehensive services, Ark Medical Solutions aims to support organisations, businesses, and communities in establishing effective public access trauma kit programs. Our expertise and commitment to quality ensure that clients receive the necessary resources and support to make a meaningful impact in emergency response and save lives.

The End Product...
Our concept, our strategy and our products of choice have resulted in the installation of the first Public Access Trauma Kit in Purbeck, Dorset. Installed on Swanage Seafront on the 31st July 2024, the pair of next generationcabinets host the Public Access AED and Trauma Kit. Funded by the Community Defibrillator Partnership with sponsorship by Ark Medical Solutions, the cabinets have been adapted and personalised with new graphics to be highly visible and easy to use.
